Dr. Nathan Gershfeld on the Healing Benefits of Water Fasting
In 2005, while studying to become an electrical engineer, Nathan Gershfeld developed a thyroid tumor and was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Nathan decided against drugs and surgery and instead pursued a holistic approach to healing. After adopting a plant-based diet and incorporating water fasting his autoimmune disease resolved.
This experience prompted a radical career change. Nathan became a Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine, and now assists others in healing chronic disease with diet and lifestyle interventions and fasting at Fasting Escape Retreat Center in Orange County, California. My experience in water fasting goes back when I was a young boy growing up. My parents were Christians would fast the first of each month. Wasn't easy but I did it cause of the spiritual reasons behind fasting. At times I would drink water to help fill me up so I wouldn't be so hungry for the 24 hours of fasting.
My dear mother would read me scriptures about fasting. The one that stuck to me even to this day was Daniel Chapter 10. When he fasted for three weeks, 21 days. What Is the Daniel Fast? The 21-day Daniel Fast is inspired by two lines of scripture found in the Old Testament's Book of Daniel, Chapter 10, verses 2-3: "In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks...
Jesus fasted for 40 days to be Intune closer to the father to give him strength to do his mission here on earth. St Matthew Chapter 4.
Through out Biblical times people fasted to over come sickness. Today there are books and retreats on water fasting to heal the body of illnesses.
My first experience fasting was for 3 days when I was studying to be a Master Herbalist. This we had to do this was one of the assignments to do and then speak to a group about our experience for the 3 days.
Fasting for the 3 days was difficult the first 2 days but day 3, I noticed I wasn't hungry just a little weak for not eating for 3 days. I felt so good inside more connected with myself more in control. My mind even felt more clear I didn't have any stress I slept real good more peaceful rest.
Years later I studied more about water fasting and started again to water fast for 4-5 days. It was much easier now cause I ate a vegetarian vegan diet I was in better shape. I learned that when you are clean inside it is much easier to fast. Amazing how that works.
I started to do intermitted fasting for the last 5 years and feel even better. I'm not hungry in the mornings so I start my day taking my herbal supplements then I break the fast at lunchtime. Do my Vegan Plant Protein. At dinner meal I do my plant strong meals see "Eat like Spencer" this is what I eat for dinner. Been plant strong for about 11 years. Vegetarian before going 100% Plant Strong! Making a transition to go all out Plant Strong made a difference for me. I pass this on to you to make a change go All out with plant foods you will feel better stronger and healthier than ever. :)

Fasting for 3 days can regenerate entire immune system study finds.
The Telegraph recently reported that scientists at the University of Southern California (USC) have discovered that fasting “for as little as three days can regenerate the entire immune system, even in the elderly, scientists have found in a breakthrough described as “remarkable.”
New research suggests that fasting kick-starts stem cells into producing new white blood cells, which fight off infection. Scientists at the University of Southern California found that fasting could be especially beneficial for people suffering from damaged immune systems, such as cancer patients on chemotherapy.
It could also help the elderly whose immune system becomes less effective as they age, making it harder for them to fight off even common diseases. The researchers say fasting “flips a regenerative switch” which prompts stem cells to create brand new white blood cells, essentially regenerating the entire immune system.
Valter Longo, corresponding author of the study and a professor at the USC Davis School of Gerontology, stated: “When you starve, the system tries to save energy, and one of the things it can do to save energy is to recycle a lot of the immune cells that are not needed, especially those that may be damaged. ”Longo added, “With a system heavily damaged by chemotherapy or aging, fasting cycles can generate, literally, a new immune system.

“I just completed A 40 DAY DISTILLED WATER FAST TO HEAL MYSELF from significant degeneration of my knees secondary to osteoarthritis. My fast was fairly simple and straight forward. My goal was to fast on 1 GALLON TO 1.5 GALLONS OF DISTILLED WATER EACH DAY. I would ‘pound a pound’ (drink a pint quickly) at least every 1-2 hours. I was able to obtain a 6-week medical leave of absence and on day one of my medical leave I began fasting on 1.5 GALLONS OF DISTILLED WATER.
I am ecstatic with the results. I lost 35 pounds which was very important for my knees. My objective was to remove inorganic mineral deposits throughout my body (like years and years of arterial plaque build-up), however I PRIMARILY DESIRED TO REMOVE ALL THE MINERAL DEPOSITS IN ALL OF MY JOINTS which are greatly impacted by osteoarthritis. 7 weeks ago, I had to order a seated walker to use at work in my role as a nurse consultant.
